I am currently in the process of working on an expanded version of sorts that will be a 16 page illustrated zine that I am hoping to do a kickstarter for in late 2026 or early 2027 click the button bellow and send me an email letting me know your interested.
SORTS is a FREE, one-page, letter tile, spell casting, TTRPG. No dice to roll, no individual spell rules to remember, no spell slots to track. Just the letters you draw, the words you can make and your creativity.
The main fun of SORTS is casting creative and imaginative spells without having individual rules for every spell. To do so you describe the intention of your spell in a general way “i want to cast a spell to unlock the door”. Then draw letter tiles and try to make a word in about 30 seconds. This word is your spell. Maybe you can make the word UNLOCK. You can describe how a spectral key appears and unlocks the door. Instead perhaps you make the word BULL and describe how a raging bull appears and charges the door smashing it open. Now you gotta deal with that bull.
The idea for SORTS Began when I was working on another game (Magic & Mishaps) I was frustrated about having individual rules for every spell. I wanted something more creative. One day I was watching a video from the awesome >>Bob World Builder<< where he discussed the game >>Skate Wizards<< by Michael C. Hsiung and Levi Nunez/Loot the Body. In Skate Wizards players can cast Rando Spells, for these spells you roll 4 times on a table and these 4 random words are the spell which is then interpreted by the player and GM. I was also watching a bunch of awesome scrabble history videos by >>Will Anderson<<, which definitely influenced my idea to use letter tiles.
Since creating SORTS I have found out about another letter tiles spellcasting game called Spell: The RPG by Whimsy Machine Games so if you like this but want a more in depth system check out their game.
